Oh I have been through this years ago until I took maters into my own hands & read some computer books, and yes i did find out a lot. Personally I did not care for ME but my tech (from a local Ad) said it was excellent....I disagreed ~ However, if for you it has been working fine then ask him (tell him actually) that you want to go back to ME. Now about the Motherboard being blown I am not so sure this is the issue. I can say with a 99% degree of certainty that the XP was NOT a new and pristine copy.....easily enough having a Virus on it...have been through that too. Please ask him if he did replace the motherboard...where is it? Is he sure it is blown? I don't know what you know about basic computer maintenance but your point is well taken with me as I did get use to XP ( a version of it..) and would NOT try Vista if someone paid me. If your computer is freezing up when you are attempting to access something as simple as printing...there is every chance that his installation was bogus...hey i am sure he was or is sincere, but sincere doesn't fix the problem...this is the "More must be better syndrome" and it really isn't better. I see you have been given some excellent recommendations here, but you only need so much. People I know insist upon more gigs as they have thousands of songs....but THAT is not your issue. Did you lose all of your Photoshop ability? The programme MUST be somewhere...the motherboard has a footprint of everything that has ever been on it....please ask him if the motherboard is new....and where is the OLD one? The lack of connectivity RE: The USB ports is NOT good. When you have a machine which kicks on and ff OR will not turn off...and you must do this manually well your computers life is just about over so it seems. One thing I highly recommend is this: Cayou downloadad Photoshop Data? Of courstherere is the lack of ability to print right? he has some explaining to do....but while this is very sensitive to you, perhaps in the future which I know does not help u know, please invest in an external hard drive, a small one....for YOUR back up info. The computer must be programmed to recognise everything he messeup byby adding things....there is only so much one can do with an older machine...and often adding is the worst thing that can be done while basic computer maintenance is all you really need to know. Do you trust him to give this another go? OR are u of the ilto perhapsps take it into a pro who KNOWS to get it done within a day...(I always insisted) & put it back the way that you had it. it is also hard to have more than one person using a computer....all kinds of problems can then happen. Please ask him to remove some of this..as it is too much for your computer.Any bootleg copy of an XP disc can easily come with its own virus....like a snake laying in wait. Had that happen too. What I would do is call a couplof computerer places and speak with the tier 3 techs and explain your problem. Run a Scan first off and see what you come up with....whatever sorts out your antivirus/spyware and quarantines it. then upon that see how it is working....call a pro...sorry but even if he is the most sincere person in the world, your world has just been rocked i.e. compromised by not being able to use your computer as u did. Too many hands in the mix here. Yu should NOT be freezing up..comp place will be able to answer your Q's a lot easier and direct you to your desired result.
I wish you the very best...please stand firmly about what you want and what your needs are.

Thanks

Are you sure he only changed the power pack? seems its a completely different unit.
Ask him what happened. What did he do? Let him fixed it. Tell your dad what happened. It's really a big problem. In case he really upgraded and you badly needed your son's course work, tell him to recover it. It may be not 100% but worth trying.

I'd call him back and have him FIX the computer he broke.

Tell him you didn't authorize an OS upgrade... nor did you want one.

Ask him what happened to the APPS that us use to use, need and love... and tell him - that you APPRECIATE his effort... but if he wants to be HELPFUL - he can do so by making it so your system doesn't become less usable.

Get your DAD involved - ask your dad "what was this guy thinking".

That's why you HIRE people to fix your stuff - is so you have some CONTROL over what they do.
