HELP Laptop Hard Drive crashed?

Enrique T asked in Q&A:

I have a HP 5375US(oldie but goodie). My Hard drive recently started ticking, which I should have realized was a problem, but didn’t and It crashed.

Now when I turn the laptop on all I get is the options to go to the setup menu or to boot from a LAN. I know I will need a new hard drive, and Im not worried about stuff that was on the old hard drive anyway.

The real question is, is all that I need to do is install a new hard drive and reinstall windows XP? or is there more to it than what Im thinking?

What about drivers for the system?

I know with HP and XP…if you need the drivers and you go to microsoft.com they will update ALL drivers you need if they are related to any windows program. The rest I am not sure of..but I did put in a new hard drive on a computer before and installed everything on it and it wasn’t difficult.

I too have an HP laptop too …..but it is only 2 years old. I had to reformat it last week due to a virus I had gotten..probably grandchildren got it when they were playing on it. …it was zlob…a HORRIBLE virus to get..no cure! Next time they can play on the desktop one..it is older and I could use a new one of those too! hahahaha

    Good luck…
