Registry repair is necessary if you have a lot of program files and your computer has become really sluggish and slow over time. If that's the case, then I recommend Regcure which is a product I use on all the PC's I service. CCleaner is good for most situations but if you have really deep problems then try Regcure. It usually works first time... For general tips related to slow PC's try this site:

If your system is running ok Don’t use registry cleaners they can make things worse.

If you’re not having any problems, crashes, blue screens etc. then leave the registry alone.

That said, there’s always broken/obsolete keys left over from re/un-installs.

I recommend cleaning the registry and I use RegCure (there is many Registry cleaning programs out there) But if you want a free one check out this one it's called "CCleaner"
