motherboard help. windows wont boot after upgrade?

Joe asked in Q&A:

ok, so for christmas i got this motherboard and a cpu. so i go to install it and it works great. i set up the bios and did all that and i went to boot. i had to boot windows to a ide drive. so i got the bsod crash at the bigging, so it was becase of the new hardware.
first, i cant install windows because i dont have a cd because my system was bought from a school for 50$. it was a dell gx50 intell setup. my new board and cpu are amd.

all i can think of is take the mobo cd and install it on my old system then put it in the new system. i can boot fine in the old computer.

i do have access to a xp cd but it is a xp upgrade so doing a reinstall is out of the question since i would need to use the same key as my dad.
i could do a repair install but i dont know if i would need the exact key from the cd or any key like the one printed on my dell.
but if i do a repair install i would need to attach my ide drive and hdd to the same cable and the bios wont allow it. i have 4sata ports 1 sata hdd a ide drive with windows and a ide cd drive. i own partiion manager so i could copy the ide drive to the sata and repair install but my pqmaniger boot floppies wont work on the new system. .

im at a complete loss. i plan on installing the drivers onto the dell and then shutting down and trying a boot on the new system

thanks for any help

Go to your local computer repair shop and ask them for a copy of Windows XP for Dell computers. If they won’t give you one, ask your friends if they have a DELL> If you use a DELL installation cd, it won’t ask you for a serial number key. The older Compaq machines will work the same way with Compaq installation disk from Compaq.

Get a install disc of XP, you should download the current BIOS from Dell for the GX50, and use a floppy disc and floppy drive to install it.
    Have a nice day
